Wouldn’t you know it, after over 16 million votes in the contest presented by EA Sports and NHL.com to pick the cover guy for NHL 13, and Scott Hartnell’s ugly mug is still in the running.
Only kidding, Flyer fans. And actually, the Philadelphia Flyers have two chances to be represented, with Claude Giroux making the final eight as well.
Over the next week-and-a-half there will be two voting periods involving two separate matchups. Here are the brackets:
Bracket A
Claude Giroux vs. Anze Kopitar | Scott Hartnell vs. Evgeni Malkin
Bracket B
Pavel Datsyuk vs. John Tavares | Henrik Lundqvist vs. Pekka Rinne
It’s good to see Tavares finally getting some recognition, but will it be enough to beat out Hart Trophy candidate Evgeni Malkin? Or will No. 13 Pavel Datsyuk grace the NHL 13 cover? Or will Kopitar capitalize on the success of the Kings‘ playoff run? Or will a goaltender get the spot?
Bracket A voting runs from Friday to May 17. Bracket B voting begins May 18 and closes May 23. The semifinalists will be announced May 24, when the next round of voting begins.
The EA Sports Cover Vote Finals takes place from May 29 to June 4, with the winner being announced during the 2012 NHL Awards on June 20 at the Wynn Las Vegas.
