Pittsburgh Penguins fans, brace yourselves, Evgeni Malkin won’t be on the ice for Tuesday’s home opener against the Florida Panthers.
Malkin, who had surgery in February after tearing ligaments in his right knee, sustained a lower-body injury Saturday night in a game against the Calgary Flames. However, team officials are saying that his current injury is unrelated to his offseason surgery.
This will be the second straight game that Malkin has missed after being sidelined in the Pens’ shootout loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday.
Although the injury isn’t believed to be a long-term issue, there is going to be a horrible sense of deja vu for Pens fans in not seeing No. 71 and No. 87 on the ice again, as was much of the case for the latter part of the 2010-11 season.
