I’ve been discussing this topic over that past few weeks and now it’s here! That’s right Detroit fans, it is the beginning of the
2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Although the Red Wings will be starting this first round series on the road many of the players are very pleased to know that they won’t be traveling too far from home. In the previous two seasons the Red Wings have had to travel back three time zones to the West coast to face teams from that side of the country.

This is especially exciting news for all you Red Wings enthusiasts out there. Detroit has struggled on the road this season despite having an almost impenetrable record at home. The playoffs are now just two games away and the Red Wings will get to finish the regular season where they play best….at Joe Louis Arena. Fans in Detroit are already anticipating an outstanding playoff run this year and are very happy to see many of their team’s solid players return from injury at just the right time.

Last Wednesday the Red Wings came back down to earth after a very much needed two game win streak. The loss came at the hands of the Columbus Blue Jackets (this season’s worst NHL team in the win/loss column of the overall standings).
However I personally feel good for the Blue Jackets and their fans for such a victory.
Their playoff aspirations for this year have been long gone, so if you’re a Blue Jackets fan then it has to feel almost bittersweet to knock off the Red Wings at home this late in the season.

Detroit came up with a much needed win against the Carolina Hurricanes this past weekend, but they are hungry for more as playoff time draws near.
The Red Wings will be looking to make their 21st straight appearance into the playoffs and are hoping to build some positive momentum going into them.
The team feels great that leaders such as Pavel Datsyuk and Nicklaus Lidstrom are now back on the ice once again. Major injuries to Darren Helm and Johan Franzen continue to plague the team.

Tonight the Detroit Redwings square off against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. It will be the first time the ‘Wings have played in the Garden since Dec. 6th, 2009. Overall the Redwings have had a very favorable history in their matchup with the Rangers at Madison Square Garden (7-1-0).
The Rangers haven’t defeated the Redwings since Oct. 25th, 2003. They will be looking to pour salt into the wound so to speak as the Redwings continue to recover from many injuries. Some encouraging news for the Redwings though as it appears that team captain Nicklaus Lidstrom is hoping to return to the lineup on Saturday.

Saturday’s matchup against the Sharks showed a lot of promise, but the injury issues still seem to be showing weakness in the Red Wings lineup. Pavel Datsyuk made an immediate impact as expected with a goal; his presence will continue to be essential to their playoff hopes.
Tonight the Red Wings take on a hungry Washington Capitals team that finds themselves on the outer edge of the playoff bracket in the Eastern Conference. The Capitals are usually known for being at the top of their conference but have struggled this year up to this point.

First I would like to extend a wish of Happy St. Patricks Day to all. Be safe, have fun, and enjoy the company of those around you (friends and/or family). Now it’s on to business as usual. It’s time to get into some hockey talk (specifically and mostly pertaining to the Detroit Red Wings of course).
Last time I checked the recent injury updates team captain Nicklaus Lidstrom is still a no go for tonight’s match up with the San Jose Sharks. There is also a strong possibility that Johann Franzen (the Mule) will be sidelined as well. However, Pavel Datsyuk is back tonight which is extremely exciting news for the team and of course the Red Wings‘ fans.

It’s that time of year once again where many teams are fighting for their playoff lives’. Perennial powerhouse teams such as the Detroit Red Wings are looking to make yet another appearance which will make this approximately 20+ consecutive appearances in a row. I might be off on the exact number but I recall hearing about how they set a record last season. Unfortunately I was unable to track down the specific source at this moment.

The NHL’s Winter Classic is a hockey spectacle that has grown bigger each season of its five-year existence.
It won’t get much bigger than 2013.
The NHL announced Thursday that the next stop for the Jan. 1 outdoor game will be at Michigan Stadium, home of the Michigan Wolverines, with an incredible 115,000 tickets that will be available for fans.
Adding to the mystique of the New Year’s Day game at “The Big House” will be the two Original Six franchises participating in the game—the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings.
