Today Habs GM Marc Bergevin announced that he has hired Michel Therrien to be the new Canadiens head coach. Michel Therrien is not a rookie to coaching, and has been the head coach of 2 teams before. It appeared as though the duel was between Marc Crawford and Therrien, and Therrien came out on top. Therrien was previously an analyst on RDS last season.

So much for those rumors about Patrick Roy being the next head coach of the Montreal Canadiens. Instead of hiring a former Canadiens player to take over the prime spot behind the Habs’ bench, the team opted to go with a former Canadiens coach in Michel Therrien.
The Canadiens announced Tuesday that Therrien has left his job as a television analyst for RDS and will be the new head coach for the 2012-13 season, his second stint with the historic franchise. Therrien broke into the NHL coaching ranks with the Canadiens back on Nov. 20, 2000. He coached the club for parts of three seasons, compiling a regular season record of 77-77-36 before being fired 46 games into the 2002-03 season. He would then go on to coach the Pittsburgh Penguins from 2007 to 2009, when he was replaced by Dan Bylsma, who would of course lead the Pens to a Stanley Cup that season.

When the 2012-13 NHL season begins after the summer, don’t expect Tim Thomas to me manning the blue paint for the Boston Bruins.
Thomas’ agent, Bill Zito, recently contacted Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli and informed him that Thomas was considering not playing in 2012-13, the final season of his four-year, $20 million contract.
“As of right now, I’m operating under the premise there is a strong possibility of him taking the year off,’’ Chiarelli said on Friday during a conference call. “We’d have to go about our business without Tim Thomas for the year.’’

The Montreal Canadiens acquired Michael Bournival in a trade from the Colorado Avalanche. He is a 3rd round draft pick that the Canadiens are proud to have. He continues to prove his worth, by improving his skills and being involved in many tournaments and events all around the hockey world.
Bournival is a tremendous player, one who works hard and fights in the dirty areas for the puck. He works hard every shift and never gives up. He does decent on offensive, but does not have the offensive prowess to make him an elite prospect. He has spent 4 seasons with the Shawinigan Cataractes, the team he was drafted by in the 2008 QMJHL Entry Draft. The Cataractes took him at 7th overall.

This year, the Habs scouts must be jumping for joy due to some very nice draft picks. Although, the last 2 seasons have not always been full of top 10 picks. Trevor Timmins and his crew have excelled in the later rounds of the draft the last 2 years, with 3 picks in particular standing out. Brendan Gallagher, Morgan Ellis and Darren Dietz have all improved greatly since being drafted, and are ready to make an impact on Hamilton next season.

This week has been a big week for Habs General Manager Marc Bergevin, seeing as he has added an assistant GM, re-signed an assistant GM, and hired another scout. Bergevin hired Bobby Kinsella, a professional scout yesterday. Today, he went on to hire Rick Dudley to be his assistant GM and he extended Larry Carriere who is Bergevin’s other assistant GM. After winning a Stanley Cup in 2011 and failing to find the back of the net in the postseason in 2012, the natives in Boston are expecting big things from their hockey team this offseason. However, Bruins fans shouldn’t expect GM Peter Chiarelli to sell the farm just to land Rick Nash, undoubtedly the biggest free agent-to-be in the summer.
According to CSNNE’s Joe Haggerty, the Blue Jackets are looking for a package of Tyler Seguin or Milan Lucic and Doug Hamilton, the ninth overall pick in the 2011 NHL draft. However, in a recent radio interview, Harrerty gave his two cents and shot down the notion that the Bruins would we willing to trade away two key components of their team in order to land Nash.

The Memorial Cup is a trophy that is won by the best of the best every year. The champions of every CHL league, the WHL, OHL, and QMJHL all compete to see who the best team in the CHL is. The round robin portion of the tournament is already underway, each team having already played 2 games. The 2012 Memorial Cup is being hosted in Shawinigan, Quebec.

Brendan Gallagher has been an underdog for most of his life, but over and over again he seems to prove critics wrong. Gallagher was chosen 147th overall in the 5th round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens. He was drafted in the 9th round of the WHL Bantam Draft by the Vancouver Giants. Gallagher has played in Vancouver for his entire 4 year WHL career. Gallagher has a wide range of weapons, an excellent work ethic, and is even a captain.
