This is especially exciting news for all you Red Wings enthusiasts out there. Detroit has struggled on the road this season despite having an almost impenetrable record at home. The playoffs are now just two games away and the Red Wings will get to finish the regular season where they play best….at Joe Louis Arena. Fans in Detroit are already anticipating an outstanding playoff run this year and are very happy to see many of their team’s solid players return from injury at just the right time.
The win in St. Louis means more than one would think for Detroit. Yes they did indeed lead the overall season series against the Blues but they had yet to win in St.Louis up until that game on Wednesday. This also shows that Detroit is capable of pulling off wins on the road against division leaders, and not only that but one of the strongest teams in the NHL this season overall. The Red Wings are still neck and neck with the Predators for the #4 seed in the Western Conference bracket, but they do currently have the edge.
Todd Bertuzzi came up huge in the shootout against the Blues scoring the game winner. This isn’t the first time Bertuzzi has pulled off such heroics in a shootout for the Redwings and he certainly is capable of performing such spectacular tasks again.
Tonight the Red Wings face off against the New Jersey Devils. If you are attending the game in person it is Nicklas Lidstrom bobblehead night (certainly a fun night to attend for all fans in addition to the fact that they get to see the NHL’s elite play in the best arena of the entire league). The Red Wings have won both of the most recent match-ups against the Devils and look to continue that dominance in this particular series.
Jimmy Howard looked solid against the Blues with 27 saves and will only continue to get stronger as time goes forward. It appears as if Howard should start in net for the Red Wings as well tonight.
So there it is folks, the regular season is about to wrap up, and then it’s playoff time in Hockey Town! I know as a fan of the Detroit Red Wings myself that I eagerly await what magic lies ahead this postseason. Detroit will finish out the regular season against their fierce rivals the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday.
I hope everybody has a great weekend and go Red Wings!
