Vancouver Canucks Look to Escape Funk

by Simrin Purhar on March 21, 2012

The Vancouver Canucks take on the Chicago Blackhawks tonight. Guaranteed, there is sure to be loads of excitement and passion broiling between these two arch rivals at tonight’s game.

For the Canucks it’s the not the question of making the playoffs; it’s the question of picking up the urgency level and creating a competitive energy for the upcoming playoff run. The Canucks are looking to not only break the Blackhawks four game-winning streak, but also to escape their own lowly slump.

Last time these two rivals matched was January 31st, where Vancouver pulled out a fantastic over time win. Applauded were efforts not only by the team but in particular Cory Schneider, Cody Hodgson and Daniel Sedin. But can the Canucks still snatch a win tonight starting Roberto Luongo instead and without recently traded Hogdson?

Though the red-hot Hawks have been playing strong, earning themselves a four-game win streak, the Vancouver Canucks potentially have an advantage tonight. With the Hawks playing the Columbus Blue Jackets last night and arriving back home early morning today, the Canucks have the benefit of rest over their opponent tonight. As well, Chicago is missing their top goal scorer and captain Jonathon Toews, currently out with concussion symptoms.

With playoffs taking off within the next three weeks it is an obviously critical part of any teams season, where top players are expected and required to execute and achieve. The Canucks veterans like Mason Raymond and Manny Maholtra have been constantly under-performing, almost nonexistent. Turning to captain Henrik Sedin, you are shocked to see his stats – 0 goals and 4 assists in the last 11 games.

For tonight’s game in Chicago its essential for the Vancouver Canucks to dominate and capitalize on all opportunities and battles. Feistiness as well as composure is key to the Canucks success. Feeding off each other’s high energy and winning tonight’s game against arch rivals Chicago Blackhawks is vital to building up the Canucks confidence for the Stanley Cup Playoff run.

With the regular season about the end and playoffs beginning, a game against the energetic and competitive Blackhawks is just what the Vancouver Canucks need to awaken from their deep slump.
